Missouri State is planning a preview of the new JQH Arena exclusively for students on Nov. 1.

Jeremy Schenk, director of student activities, and Tara Benson, assistant director of student activities, have been working with roughly 15 student leaders from organizations around campus.

"A couple months ago, we were asked to plan a sneak preview of the arena for students before any of the general public can get in," Schenk said.

He said they pulled these leaders together to get a wide variety of student interests.

These leaders came from such organizations as the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic, the Student Government Association and Students for a Sustainable Future.

Karli Morie, Panhellenic president, said this event is a good chance for students to see exactly where their money is going.

The committee for the opening has planned a line-up of speeches and entertainment starting at 9 p.m.

Along with the entertainment on stage, four talents will perform throughout the four concourses, the hallways surrounding the stage where vendors are located.

The Beartones have already been lined-up and the committee is the process of locking in three more talents.

At 9:20 p.m. Cuonzo Martin, head coach for the men's basketball team, will speak about the upcoming basketball season and welcome the basketball team.

Schenk said the women's basketball coach, Nyla Milleson, will talk about their season after Martin is done.

"After the speakers, The Cadence will entertain us with a high-energy 15- to 20-minute performance," Morie said.

Jason Polsgrove, member of The Cadence said he and the other members are really excited to play at Missouri State since this is where most of them are from.

"This is the first time we have ever done a show of this magnitude and length," Polsgrove said. "We will play a 90-second clip of 'America's Got Talent,' and then we will play live music the rest of the time."

"We are incorporating some of our stuff from the early days of The Cadence, some stuff we play now and some that we are writing for the show," he said.

"We are not getting paid to play, we are just excited to get the chance to play for Missouri State students, since many of us are from here," Polsgrove said.

When The Cadence is finished, a band called "Your Vegas" will perform for the final hour.

During the final hour, students will be given tours of the arena.

"We will have at least one suite open for students to come in and look at and they will also be able to go back stage," Schenk said. "It is an amazing facility, and I cannot wait for students to come and check it out."
