Campus and city police officers told a Missouri State University student earlier this month that the F-word cannot be said on the Bear Paw, a designated free speech zone. One campus safety officer and one Springfield Police officer responded to the Bear Paw after a profanity complaint was made on Oct.
Starting yesterday, the project to bring water back to the John Q. Hammons fountain began as MTS Contracting and Missouri State made plans for initial setup of the construction work zone. The fencing and utilities contractors hired by Missouri State surveyed the area yesterday, and will erect a fence around the perimeter of the work zone beginning next week, Bill Tierney, project manager for maintenance and repair at Missouri State, said.
At a time with no television, internet or even cell phone charging capabilities, several people found themselves entertained by long-forgotten about board and card games, and many may have possibly even fought to stay warm and "entertained" through friction and body heat.
The walkway between Siceluff Hall and Plaster Student Union was filled with students playing with kittens as part as the Rent-A-Kitty event on Sept. 26 and 27 hosted by Phi Sigma Pi. At least four students contracted ringworm sometime after playing with the kittens.
Taylor Health and Wellness Center is once again administering free flu shots to students. The shots became available on Oct. 10, said retired nurse Betsy Cox, who was administering the shots. They are available from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The center will continue administering the vaccinations until the supply runs out, so students will be able to receive one in the future as well.
