Guinness Campaign aims to make St. Patrick's Day a national holiday

A campaign to make St. Patrick's Day more than just a day of wearing green and handing out pinches is underway, and the makers of Guinness are asking for the public's help. Proposition 3-17 is trying to pull St. Patrick's Day from the likes of Cinco de Mayo and Mardi Gras and make the day a nationally-recognized paid holiday in the United States.

St. Patrick's Day parade to be held downtown Saturday

Springfield's 28th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade marches downtown Saturday at noon. "It's had a long history and has been well attended," St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal and KSMU producer Mike Smith said. "It's a chance to say goodbye to winter and say hello to spring and remember our Irish heritage.

Local rock group to perform at CD release party

Tickets are on sale now for local band A Day Away's CD Release Party held Friday at the Randy Bacon Gallery. The release party is celebrating the band's second CD titled "Here We Go Again." Local bands The Whitest Light (formerly happyendings) and The Handmedowns will also be performing.

For students who want to participate in the Missouri State's annual Relay for Life, the chance is still open. Many students and faculty at Missouri State have already taken the plunge to fight back against cancer, but there is still a need for more teams, according to Alyson Mays, team development co-chair and a senior marketing major.
