Golf teams battling through fall season

While the action doesn't really get going until the spring season, it currently appears that the Missouri State women's golf team is closer to where it wants to be than the men's squad is. The men's golf team played well in its first tournament of the season, finishing fifth out of 12 teams.

Looking to rebound from last Sunday's 3-1 loss to Evansville, Missouri State's women's soccer team will hit the road this weekend to take on two Missouri Valley Conference foes. Staying in Iowa the entire trip, the Bears first head to Cedar Falls Friday, where they'll take on the Northern Iowa Panthers.

Rushing attack boosts Bears over Penguins

Missouri State's one-two punch at running back proved too much for the visiting Youngstown State Penguins Saturday afternoon, as the Bears won their homecoming game 42-28. Sophomores Kingjack Washington and Stephen Johnston combined for 227 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help the Bears improve to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

Ice Bears prevail in OT

The Missouri State Ice Bears played the Robert Morris-Chicago Eagles on Friday at home, coming off of two huge wins against an inferior team. The Eagles were much better than the Panthers of last week, but the Ice Bears still won the game 3-2 in overtime thanks to the golden hockey stick of Danny Bethmann.

Melugin magical following position change

Missouri State coach Jon Leamy said he has finally figured out what Heath Melugin does best: score goals. Now, Leamy's hoping the freshman forward can continue to boost the Bears like he has done in recent games. Melugin scored two goals Tuesday night as the Bears beat Central Arkansas 2-1 at Plaster Field.

Volleyball Notes: Wins lead to awards for Bears

After last weekend's wild ride, Missouri State volleyball has received one more surprise: player of the week honors. Junior Addie Foley was named Missouri Valley Conference player of the week, while her back row teammate, senior Terri Del Conte was named conference defensive player of the week.

Ice Bears notes: goalies get time

You're outta here Matt Schroeder, the son of head coach Mike Schroeder, was disqualified from Friday's game with three seconds left for fighting. By that time the game had gotten out of hand and the Eastern Illinois Panthers were starting to play more physical.
