The Missouri State women's golf team started their season with a tie for 9th place out of the 19 teams at the Chip n' Club Invitational.
The team tied with South Dakota State University, finishing with a total score of 953 after three rounds.
Texas State took first place and scored 897. That put them at 45 over par with second place, Kansas State University, 5 strokes behind them.
Seniors Missy Linnens and Lyndsey Adams finished in the top 15 at the invitational.
Adams tied for twelfth with the University of Kansas' Annie Giangrosso with a score of 227.
Linnens ended the first round at 80, which was nine over par but battled back in the last two rounds to end in a three-way tie for 14th place with Northern Colorado's Jenny Henderson and Pamela Intiveros from Oral Roberts University.
Though this may not be the start that the team was looking for, it was only the beginning and there were some promising moments for some of the team.
"Although our first tournament did not go as planned, we are expecting great things and have set goals that we plan to accomplish throughout the season," Linnens said.
The team has been practicing hard and plans to improve on their start. "We are working hard at improving our golf as well as our mental game," Linnens said.
Their next match will be this Monday and Tuesday at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Kent.
