Whether at home or on the road, the Missouri State volleyball team keeps on rolling. The Lady Bears picked up two more wins against Indiana State and Illinois State.
The team is now 13-2, winners of eight straight and looking to make it nine tonight at 7 p.m. against Oral Roberts at Hammons Student Center.
"Oral Roberts is a strong team. They have terminators everywhere on the court. As long as we keep up the good team defense, pass well and change them with our serves, then we should be good for tonight," head coach Melissa Stokes said.
The Lady Bears hit the road to take on the ISU's (Indiana and Illinois), two conference foes. Illinois State stymied Missouri State all night. Missouri State won in four close games, 32-30, 30-26, 21-30, 30-27.
"Illinois State definitely pushed us. They are a good team," sophomore Sara Staubach said.
Missouri State used a well-balanced attack to take down the Redbirds. The Lady Bears had three hitters in double digit kills, Staubach with 21 and seniors Jamie Adams (16) and Sara Thomas (11).
The team also had 113 digs, or 28 per game, which is 10 more per game then the Lady Bear's average. Leading the way was freshman Cara Hackmann (23), and juniors Terri Del Conte (23) and Nikki Vandepopulier (21).
Senior Katelyn Panzau added 54 assists, giving her 628 on the season and 2,130 all-time.
The team had to deal not only with travel, but with the thermostat in their game against Indiana State on Friday. The temperature in the gym was 93 degrees for the contest.
"It was definitely hot that game, but I think we really played well as a team," said Staubach, outside hitter and the match leader with 11 kills, 32 for the weekend.
