Volleyball stays on a roll

Life is as easy as a Hac-kmann bump, Panzau set and a Thomas spike for Missouri State volleyball so far this season. Even though those parts are interchangeable for the Lady Bears, the concept is all the same for the team.

Missouri State is currently 14-2 (4-0 in conference) and winners of nine straight. They took care of Oral Roberts (7-7) on Tuesday night in three sets, 30-26, 30-27, and 30-27. The match was close the entire time until Missouri State took control late in each game.

Sophomore Sara Staubach led the team with 13 kills against ORU. Missouri State is now 7-0 on the season when Staubach has at least 10 kills.

The Lady Bears well-balanced attack is lead by seniors Katelyn Panzau and Sara Thomas. Panzau is one of the best setters in the nation (averaging over 11.5 assists per game) as well as in Missouri State history (seventh all-time with 2,130 assists).

Thomas consistently fills up the stat sheet night after night, wherever needed. She has the ability to put up 20 kills in a match (against No. 25 Middle Tennessee St.) or just have a quiet night with a double-double (10 kills, 13 digs against Oral Roberts).

The Lady Bears hope to continue this winning trend against a couple of Missouri Valley foes tonight at 7 p.m. against Southern Illinois and Saturday at 7 p.m. against Evansville.

Cross Country

Missouri State is headed down to Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday to go against some major competition at 9 a.m. in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree. So far this season, senior Carrie Vestal has led the Lady Bears to wins in the Washington University Invi-tational and last weekend's Missouri State Classic.

To win the Missouri State Classic, Vestal held off Nicole Braunsdorf of Drake to win the meet by three seconds and was joined by teammates junior Jamie Vest, junior Kristin Wolkey and freshman Nancy Nieto to round out the top five. It was the second time this season the team has had four of the top five runners.

Vestal, the Missouri Valley Conference runner of the week, has won both competitions and looks to do the same against some of the best in the nation. The team gets its last regular season meet tune-up before getting into their major meet schedule coming with pre-nationals in two weeks and the MVC Championships in a month.
