Letter to the Editor: Parking ticket appeal was unjustly denied

I parked at the corner of National and Madison in the metered parking lot, excited to go to a Beta Alpha Psi sponsored dinner on Etiquette. I deposited all of my coins into the meter, and then realized that the meter wasn't working. I didn't have any more coins to try my luck at another parking meter. I returned to my car an hour later to find a parking ticket. Confident I surely couldn't be charged for Missouri State's faulty parking meter, I filed an appeal. After calling several times to check the status of my ticket appeal, I received an e-mailed response more than two weeks later. "Parking Appeal Denied". I e-mailed the parking appeals clerk that I am really surprised that they think I am responsible for their faulty meter. If only they had video surveillance they could see that I truly did deposit money, but I was told they don't have surveillance tapes. I am a hard-working student with a 3.5+ GPA, working a full-time job. I'm not trying to rip-off Missouri State in my spare time. How can it be possible that we let honest students get scammed by the Transit Department?
