Letter to the Editor: "Scamming students" common campus parking practice

I read the letter by Rebecca de Lopez regarding her unfair treatment by Missouri State Transit Department and it brought back some costly memories from last semester. My situation was quite the same; after having parked and paid, I realized that the meter wasn't functioning correctly. After assuming that a parking attendant would surely see the same error, I walked to my class. Sure enough though, when I returned to my car, there sat the loathed white slip on my windshield. I went straight to the Transit Department to clear up the matter, only to be told that I had to return in few days to file my report because someone had to be dispatched to verify and service the defective meter. I complied and three days later I returned to the office, only to be told that they had no record of my initial appeal or the broken meter and I would have to pay the ticket in full. Is our campus really that stricken for money that they engage in irresponsible business practices? It seems that scamming students is starting to become a more common occurrence on our campus.

I also have not been happy with the ticket appeals office. I was parked in a blue lot with my yellow tag... which sounds wrong, but it was at 8:30 at night and according to their policy, I can park my yellow tag in any blue lot I want to after 4 pm. (Continued…)
