Students who enjoy freebies and video games are in for a treat today.
The Xbox 360 College Tour is returning to Missouri State University and bringing with it plenty of chances to play.
The tour is basically a small Xbox 360 expo, said Student Activity Council member Erin Cooper. A large tour bus makes its way to campus and set up a series of demos in Plaster Student Union's West Lounge, showcasing popular and upcoming games for the Xbox 360.
Students have the opportunity to come in and play these games free of charge. The various demos give the students a chance to play unreleased games firsthand. There will also be several chances to receive free items and apparel from Microsoft, Cooper said.
Last year, the tour involved a Halo 2 tournament where competitors faced each other one-on-one until only one competitor was left. The winner received a free Xbox 360, along with several smaller prizes. This year, they will host another tournament. The tournament this time is scheduled to be a Halo 3 King of the Hill tournament, Cooper said.
Along with numerous game stations to enjoy, last year Mountain Dew teamed up with Microsoft for the event, passing out free Mountain Dew to anyone who wanted a drink. There was also Mountain Dew apparel given away. Mountain Dew is expected to return with the tour, said Cooper.
Usually, to become a part of these events, a representative from the company will contact the school and ask if it wants to be a part of the tour. In this case, they contacted the SAC, and the students in All Council for SAC voted to bring the tour to Missouri State.
"SAC wanted to bring the tour to campus because it was a fun activity that a lot of students could connect with, seeing how a lot of people have Xboxes," Cooper said. "Also, since it is during the day it is a fun thing to do to break up the monotony of the day. Plus, they give away free stuff and what college student doesn't love free stuff?"
This will mark the second year the Xbox 360 College Tour has come to Missouri State. If the event is successful and SAC receives positive feedback, they will likely attempt to bring the tour back to Missouri State in the future, Cooper said.
The event will be held in Plaster Student Union's West Lounge from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
