The Missouri State ice hockey team has played well over the past month that head coach Benjamin Alexander gave them some time off last week.
"We got together before fall break, and I watched them practice and decided they could take the week off," Alexander said. "I've talked to the players, and they were all thankful for the chance to get a breather."
They had a 15-day break between their win against Southern Illinois and this weekend's game against Illinois State.
"We will begin practicing again this week," Alexander said. "We will get back into the basic routine. We will work the basics, passing, skating and shooting."
The Ice Bears are attempting to continue an eight game winning streak that extends from Sept. 22, the last time the team has lost. Also, the team is off to a 4-0 start at home.
"During this break, we are actually just recovering from the first third of the season and reflecting on what we did well, and what we can change," the team's goalkeeper, Mike Poepping said. "We are still working out off ice, with a lot of plyometrics and agility drills to keep our feet quick for on ice transitions."
While the team isn't practicing as a whole, but the players still have their personal conditioning.
"As far as individual workouts, I'm a bigger guy, and I know that during the break I'll have to be in the gym 4 to 5 times a week," team forward, Danny Bethmann said.
