The fourth double-overtime match of the Missouri State women's soccer team's season proved to be a season-ender on Sunday as they lost 2-1 at Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
After the Oct. 28 loss to Indiana State, head coach Rob Brewer said Drake was tough and the match may come down to who gets more chances.
Drake sophomore Crystal Townley caused the Bears problems as she scored both Drake goals, the last of which being the game winner in double-overtime.
Townley started the second half by scoring off a corner kick less than eight minutes into the second half.
Less than a minute later, sophomore forward Nicole Logan scored an unassisted goal for the Bears to tie the match at 1-1.
Townley scored early in the second overtime on a pass inside the box to seal the game.
Drake played host to Missouri State in the tournament despite the fact that the Bears beat Drake on Oct. 21 in Springfield.
Drake was the No. 4 seed while Missouri State was seeded at five because the Bears' 2-2-2 conference record only gave them eight points for the tournament while Drake's 3-3 record earned them nine points.
Missouri State had more fouls called against them in the match, 12, than they had shots, seven.
Logan, senior forward Kate Blair and sophomore midfielder Samantha Aguilar were the only Bears to attempt shots.
Statistically, Drake controlled the match by only having three fouls called against them and by shooting 14 times, but the Bears stayed in the game by forcing Drake to take ill-advised shots.
Drake had just as many shots on goal as the Bears, with five, despite doubling the Bears shot total.
Blair, defender Megan Beebe and midfielder Lauren Heck, the only seniors on the team, played in their last match for the Bears. The team returns 25 players for next season.
