Crawling on your belly through a tight space in the mud with your only light coming from the head lamp on your helmet is one of the many experiences for those who sign up for Outdoor Adventures' caving trip on Nov. 17.

The cave is located in Bois D'Arc, about 20 minutes from Springfield.

"The cave is on conservation department land," senior wild-life biology major Brandi Bowling said. "It is a private cave, so the public can't come in unless they have a permit, like we already have."

The cave is not open for tours. It has no lights, no walkways and is very muddy.

The $20 fee for the trip covers transportation, guides and food.

Helmets and headlamps are provided for those who attend, Bowling said.

"Some places you have to crouch down, and there's a place where you have to belly- crawl to get through," Bowling said. "But you don't have to do it."

The trip is led by two Outdoor Adventures staff members who have been through the cave before.

The group will leave campus in the morning and spend a few hours in the cave before returning.

The deadline to register is Monday. Registration is available online at www.ws.missouristate.edu/recreation as well as in Plaster Student Union 135.
