By design, you have probably not heard that the FCC is holding its last public hearing on media ownership today in Seattle.
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is finalizing a deal that will sell his soul to the devil by Christmas.
Long-standing FCC rules restrict media cross-ownership and ban ownership of a newspaper and a TV or radio station in the same market.
The direction the FCC is taking us, one where the media are controlled by a few with goals less about journalism and more about creating wealth and consolidating control, is not where we want to go.
This push for deregulation has threatening consequences and the only advice we can give is to suggest writing your representatives in Congress.
It often seems as though we've got no chance against the titans of big business, but the power of the people can be greater than you know.
Don't let the FCC?sneak by you with an unwanted, early Christmas gift.

It strikes me as odd that The Standard objects to such cross-ownership when it seems to engage in that very system. (Continued…)
