Three Missouri State University men's basketball players are involved in a Springfield Police Department investigation, the university announced Wednesday afternoon in a news release.
The nature of the investigation was not disclosed. Head coach Barry Hinson planned to meet with the media in his office at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
All three players - Lamont Austin, freshmen from Topeka, Kan.; Chris Cooks, junior from Idabel, Okla.; and David Cline, freshman from Springdale, Ark. - are in their first year with the Bears basketball team.
The players' status with the team and with the university will be determined as more information becomes available, according to the news release.
"I am sad and disappointed that any of our players would allow themselves to be put in this position," Hinson said in the news release, "but we will be there to support them through this process. We do have expectations about how our players should conduct themselves. We are concerned and we are monitoring the situation."
Hinson said he has encouraged the players to cooperate with the Springfield police in the investigation, according to the news release.

I hope they loose their schollys. Even though they might not have done it, they have brought a TON of embarassment to our school. Why would you do something like this?! You're getting a full ride for playing a sport! I just don't get it, why throw away your future. (Continued…)
