Davis, who was converted to linebacker two years ago before returning to the backfield last season, scored three times to break the Missouri State single-season record for touchdowns and give the Bears a 55-17 victory over Southeast Missouri State in their season finale.
"The record is great and all, but I got it because of my teammates," Davis said. "The offensive line, wide receivers, tight ends and the coaches, too. I just put the hard work in, and it's just an amazing feeling. I really haven't broken any records before."
Davis had TD runs of 7 and 13 yards in the second quarter, before scoring on a 1-yarder in the third quarter to break the record. His 19 touchdowns eclipsed the old mark of 18, held by DeAndre Smith in 1990.
"The best part about the whole deal was that my family was here to see it," Davis, a senior and co-captain said. "They went crazy when I scored the third time."
Another senior co-captain, linebacker, Jeron Poole, said Davis earned everything he's achieved this season.
"I'm so proud to see him exceed at this program and go beyond belief with it," Poole said. "He's one of the few seniors that have been here all four years, and he wasn't on scholarship at first, but he just fought through it. He really turned into a diamond in the rough."
The Bears (6-5) had little trouble with the Redhawks. Missouri State raced out to a 27-3 halftime lead and finished with 534 total yards of offense.
Quarterback Cody Kirby was 18-for-21 for 255 yards and two touchdowns.
His first one went to freshman wide receiver Brandon Oliver, who caught a screen pass and juked a few defenders before taking it 34 yards for the score. The second saw junior wide receiver Jordan Eversley snag Kirby's pass one-handed in the corner of the endzone.
"Amazing plays by both of them," Kirby said.
Kirby's 1,742 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air this season were the most by a freshman QB in school history.
Jeremy Nicholson caught four balls for 67 yards, including a 22-yard pass from Matt Krapfl in the fourth quarter to close out his career.
Another senior wide receiver, Tamarkus McElvane, even got in on the action. McElvane, who had missed of the season due to a nagging knee injury, had four catches for 64 yards.
