It was a hard fought battle for the Missouri State Cross Country team, but the Bears fell Saturday to other regional teams, finishing 13 in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.
It was Missouri State's final meet of the season.
Going into this championship, the Missouri State Cross Country team was ranked eighth in the Division I Midwest Region, according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Bears were unable to get a finisher in the top 40s against teams such as Iowa, who took third in the meet and had runners in an impressive first, fifth and 18th.
Minnesota took first place having no runners finish lower than 25.
Asher Kyger was the top performer for the Bears, finishing 43rd. Jamie Vest finished second for the Bears in 53rd, and Carrie Vestal finished 65th.
The Bears final score for the meet was 329. The first place Minnesota Golden Gophers had a commanding total score of 79.
This 13th place finish ties the lowest finish for the Bears this season, which they set in mid-October in Arkansas. Since then the Bears have competed in one meet, in which they finished second.
