Big-city life hasn't distracted "America's Mayor" from gathering potential rural voter support in southwest Missouri as Rudy Giuliani made a campaign stop at the American Legion Post 137 in Mt. Vernon, Mo., Nov. 12 in honor of Veterans Day.
Vehicles overflowed the legion's parking lot, more so than the Wednesday night Bingo game crowd, as citizens of Mt. Vernon and nearby towns and cities flocked to the town hall meeting with the presidential primary Republican candidate.
Ron Paul supporters stood at the edge of the parking lot and the street to show support for their hopeful presidential candidate as Giuliani supporters and those seeking first-hand facts for an informed vote packed into the overcrowded building.
Inside, though, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, was never even mentioned by the speaker-though Ronald Reagan and presidential hopefuls Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., were commented on by Giuliani.
"He says what he means, and does what he says," Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., said during his introduction of "the man best-suited" for the presidency.
Sen. Bond also received praise from Giuliani as he said, "Senator Bond is one of the leaders of the stance that's probably better than just about anyone else in Washington; how important it is to have the Patriot Act, how important it is to have electronic surveillance, questioning so you can get information from people."
"All of that I believe the Democrats want to take a step back in," Giuliani said.
Giuliani focused his nearly 45 minute speech on his victorious goals for the Iraq war, his military strategy and plans for immigration issues before turning to the audience's questions of global warming, the Second Amendment, taxes, immigration and health care (the last questioner also mentioned Social Security in her question, but this issue was not addressed.)
"Victory means a stable Iraq that will act as an ally for us in the terrorist war against us," Giuliani said.
