J.T. Eberhard, a junior majoring in music and the president of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Church at Missouri State, could be seen throughout Tuesday and Wednesday sharing the stage in front of Strong Hall with Smock.
Eberhard's reply to Sister Pat's stance that humans need to be pure to go to Heaven was, "Purity is for drinking water, not for people."
Eberhard would rebuke and question every statement made by Smock, a well-known evangelist. Members of the audience would also yell out comments to the two, adding to the discussion, which at many times was focused on religion.
Others were also present listening to the dialogue. Cody Walker, a senior majoring in education, shared some of his views on the discussion.
"I was surprised to find dialogue with the crowd and within the crowd. J.T.'s incredibly well-spoken, though not entirely right."
"No one was really trying to find a middle ground with the extreme liberal and conservative views of Jed and J.T.," Walker said.
Walker, who is interested in becoming a Baptist missionary, had never heard Smock.
"The debates with the crowd were actually more interesting," Walker said. "I didn't know what I was expecting; the people in the crowd were better-spoken than Jed."
Kathy Luginsky, a supporter of Smock, could be seen carrying around a "trust Jesus" sign.
Luginsky has been a supporter of Smock for a number of years.
"I know and understand Jed's love and compassion for young people and most of all his love for God," Luginsky said. "In order to be faithful to God, he has to be able to do what God wants him to do. This man could have been a 10-year professor or built up a big church, but his call is to come to students on campuses across the nation and to preach the truth, because a lot of kids are not getting that."
When asked if Smock is too quick to make judgments of people, Luginsky responded, "No, I don't that he is wrong. There is a place for preaching judgment and the Bible tells us that there will be a day for judgment. He (Smock) is not passing judgment; he is explaining to the students what the Bible says so that the students can be warned and go to heaven."

The Church of the FSM is just a bunch of god-hating ignorant atheists! Their theatrics make them just as bad as brother Jed! I've been to some of their meetings and they spend a lot of time talking about how they like to kick puppies! I have proof!
And their leaders is a sick, megalomaniacal ass. (Continued…)

I am proud to be part of an academic community that produces students like J.T. Eberhard. J.T. Eberhard has not only listened to MSU's mission of Public Affairs, he has taken it to heart and then to action. (Continued…)

In response to Cody Walker's point that nobody was looking for a middle ground between the two "extremes."
I'm not sure what is so extreme about demanding that people who hold dangerous beliefs be able to justify them and provide some evidence. (Continued…)
