Letter: 'Rude awakening' coming for high school newspaper editor
Issue date: 11/30/07 Section: Opinion
I am writing in response to the letter written by Lauren Bishop, Editor-in-Chief of the Hillcrest Herald.
I would not presume that a high school student could understand, let alone appreciate, the freedoms that college journalists enjoy. When you no longer have the school administration and your parents looking over your shoulder, and you can write openly and frankly about topics, you will find that appreciation,,, someday, Ms. Bishop, when you are in a college that is "a thousand times" worse than your coveted high school. (Yes, I am quoting your pretentious article.)
Oh, but I guess you have already gotten a taste of that freedom you so ardently bash by being able to get your rant published in our student "ran" publication. (Oh and maybe you should look that up to make sure you used correct grammar on that one Ms. Editor-in-Chief-I'm-a-thousand-times-better-than-you.)
Additionally, judging a person by his picture is something we would expect out of a high school student, as cliquish as the world you live in is. But out here (the real world), there are consequences to that behavior. People bite back. They will tear you up and spit you out, and maybe you will wish to light up some "illegal herbs" too. You have a rude awakening ahead you of you, miss.
Along with not judging a "boy" by his looks, (by the way, he is older than you are, so show some respect), I also advise that you not judge a newspaper by one of its columnists. That's like saying the FOX News Channel sucks because Bill O'Reilly has a show on it. How ridiculous and ignorant would that be?
Maybe you should really reconsider college, or at least journalism. The world is full of demented, blasphemous people who will offend you.
Or maybe you just think before abusing this student-run publication again.
