As a young college football fan growing up in St. Louis, the only team that was really covered by the media, or really mattered most, was the Missouri Tigers.
With the recent upswing of the Tigers and Heisman hopeful Chase Daniels, Mizzou has once again become the popular pick among many in the nation.
There is still one roadblock in the way for the Tigers: the Big 12 title game against the Oklahoma Sooners. If Mizzou is Superman, then Oklahoma is its kryptonite.
I have learned three things about college football in my time as a fan. First, Southern Cal will always have the most athletic team and the SEC will be the most athletic conference in the nation. Secondly, Notre Dame will always disappoint the executives at NBC, who televise their games. Finally, Oklahoma will always beat Missouri.
If or when the Tigers lose on Saturday, they will not only be booted out of the national title hunt, but they will also be knocked out of one of the Bowl Championship Series bowl games.
The worst crime of it all is that even though Mizzou proved last week that they were superior to Kansas, the Jayhawks will be playing in a major bowl while the Tigers will be knocked down to a regular New Year's bowl game. The difference for the schools, besides the prominence, will be about $10 million for their school's athletic budget.
Here is my rundown of picks for the five BCS Bowl Games.
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech Hokies or Boston College Eagles vs. Florida Gators
The ACC champion will be in the Orange Bowl, which will be either the Hokies or the Eagles, who play on Saturday. Even though Virginia Tech should win the game, Boston College gives them fits.
The Orange Bowl, though, should be a competitive game for the most part, maybe for three quarters, but as long as Florida's Tim Tebow stays healthy (his hand), the Gators should be able to beat the Hokies or Eagles.
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Hawaii Warriors
With the Big 12 champion getting one spot and a wild card team usually getting the other, it will be a bit of a rematch for the Sooners. They will be playing another surprise team and will hopefully be stunned once again, this time from the arm of Colt Brennan.

Sorry about the miscue. I was a week behind in my thinking. Georgia and Tennessee were in a fight to see who would play for the east against LSU in the SEC Championship. (Continued…)

Thank goodness your attending State, because you would sure struggle in Columbia.
1) His name is Chase Daniel -- no "s". Fact checking is a good thing. (Continued…)

It's Daniel, not Daniels.
I expect more out of a SMSU guy.

It is MSU, not SMSU.
I expect as much from a MU grad.
