During the first week of December, faculty and staff at Missouri State will have an opportunity to laugh at their job.
The Carnival of Learning will hold various events this week to show the value of laughter in the work place and to inform the faculty and staff about the personal and professional development opportunities available at Missouri State.
"The Carnival of Learning is in conjunction with the Learning Week," Kristi Rippe, training specialist, said. "We're wanting to provide something that celebrates learning opportunities and faculties of Missouri State."
Some of the events of the Carnival of Learning are seminars today, a traveling road show tomorrow, which features belly dancing and a seminar on leadership qualities, from Change Management, the organization conducting the seminar. Prize drawings will be on Thursday.
Yesterday's activities included a keynote speaker, Yakov Smirnoff.
"He (Smirnoff) will be explaining the points of the carnival from a comedic point of view," Rippe said. "It should be very interesting."
Some of the sponsors of the carnival of learning are the Academic Development Center, Campus Recreation, Management Development Institute, University Staff Amba-ssadors, Jim D. Morris Center for Continuing Education and many others.
All sponsors feature the different opportunities at Missouri State.
"It's a week of informing full-time faculty of the educational opportunities," Rippe said.
The Carnival of Learning will help to develop the faculty and staff at Missouri State by making them aware of the different programs and resources that they can utilize, Rippe said.
"The importance is the awareness of the opportunities," Rippe said.
Missouri State is planning to hold Carnival of Learning as a biennial event so faculty and staff can find resources that improve their job satisfaction and get a chance to enhance skills.
Events making up the Carnival of Learning are going to be held throughout the day. Visit the university Web site for more information.
