Letter: Christian nativity scene shouldn't be left out

You can have a Menorah, can I have a Nativity Crèche?
Missouri State invited a professor, offended by a secular Christmas tree, to display a menorah. Fine, is there a nativity crèche? It is okay to share Jewish, Muslim, African - any religious symbols except Christian? Is that inclusive if you make a huge point to exclude Christians?
Can I get whatever I want if I claim to be "offended." This seems to be the magic trigger word to get the religious symbol of your choice added to Missouri State today. So I'll give it a try. I'm offended that your tree has only secular symbols and not religious symbols. If you will offer to allow a Jewish menorah, where is the invitation for a Christian nativity crèche? If you want to be inclusive, don't leave out Christian symbols.

Here, here!
I too am offended that my sacredly held religious beliefs are not being fully acknowledged! Where is the Flying Spaghetti Monster display? As every Pastafarian knows, our sacred time of "Holiday" encompasses the whole month of December - where is the recognition due to us? Do they not realize that millenia ago the Flying Spaghetti Monster lovingly endowed us with the eight "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts" in order to save us from a Hell full of stale beer and strippers with venereal diseases? Are we to kick aside His noble sacrifice by not giving Him a full and public display in an building dedicated to the study of credible ideas? Oh what fallible humans we are. (Continued…)

JT, as much as we've been agreeing lately, I have to take issue with your stance on this.
As a self-espoused atheist, the readership clearly sees through your tongue-in-cheek sham church. (Continued…)

Brandon,
Sham church? How dare you! These are my sacred religious beliefs and I have a tremendous amount of faith in them. You should respect my beliefs and so should this university - by giving us a display in Strong Hall. (Continued…)

I really don't think you can call Pastafarianism a sham, its far more real than televangelism.

Mr JT: You are so full of it. The whole purpose behind CHRISTMAS is to celebrate the birth of Christ the Son of G-d! If your "religion" has any foundation at all in true life make up your own holiday and keep it. (Continued…)

Foreign Born,
I'm full of it? What a harshly improper admonishment, especially from somebody who claims to serve the most loving, peaceful, and tolerant god. (Continued…)
