Although the cut-off date to register for Missouri's Feb. 5 presidential primaries has passed, those wishing to register for the national election in November still have time to do so.
To be eligible to vote, a person must be at least 18 years old by Election Day, a United States citizen and registered in his or her respective county.
Those wanting to register must do so in the city in which they live. At least one form of personal identification, such as a Missouri driver's or non-driver's license, U.S. passport, military ID or school ID, is required to complete the voter registration process.
"On the Missouri State campus, there are two places students can register to vote: in the Meyer Library at the reference desk and in Plaster Student Union in room 405," said Byron Stewart, head of reference and government collections at Meyer Library. "After registering, everyone will receive a voter ID card, which voters will bring with them the day they vote."
A voter ID card shows a particular resident the location at which he or she will vote. There are two of these facilities located near the Missouri State campus: the Rountree School at the corner of National and Grand as well as the fire station located at 720 E. Grand.
Citizens can only be registered to vote in one city. However, if a voter is registered in one city but located in another at the time of the election, he or she can cast a vote through an absentee ballot.
"In these instances, the residents will have to send in an application for a ballot to their registered city by the Wednesday before the election," said Lorrie Bruer, chief deputy of the Greene County Clerk's Office. "The official ballot must be in by the last Saturday before the election."
