As senior center Drew Richards remains sidelined with mononucleosis, Dex Manswell and Wade Knapp have stepped up their play in Richards' absence.
Manswell has averaged five points and seven rebounds in his three games as a starter.
Knapp had one of his better games of the season Tuesday night with four points, two rebounds and three blocks in 19 minutes.
"When they play like that, it's going to help their confidence and help them play better, which means we'll get more open looks on the outside," senior forward Dale Lamberth said. "It's kind of like a domino effect."
Handle with care
Taking care of the ball continues to be a problem for Missouri State.
The Bears have committed 285 total turnovers this season, an average of nearly 16 per game.
Meanwhile, Missouri State has dished out 251 assists for an assist-to-turnover ratio of 0.88.
The Bears (10-8, 3-3) are seventh among Missouri Valley Conference teams in that category, with Illinois State (13-3, 5-0) first at 1.21 and Southern Illinois (8-9, 3-3) last at 0.83.
Good riddance
One team that won't shed any tears next season when the Bears move from Hammons Student Center to JQH Arena is Indiana State.
After losing again Tuesday night, the Sycamores fell to 0-18 at Hammons since the Bears joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 1990. They're the only Valley team never to win on the Bears' home court.
