Fire Grand Manor

Residents watch from the street as firefighters battle the burning building on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, Springfield firefighters were dispatched to a fire at Grand Manor Apartments on Historic Walnut Street near Missouri State University campus.

The Springfield Fire and Springfield Police blocked traffic on Walnut Street between John Q. Hammons Parkway and National Avenue until late evening. 

Missouri State junior Malena Sarquella Risso Patron" for this individual. noticed her dog was intently looking out the window of her home and walked over to discover smoke coming from the building below her Sunvilla Tower dormitory. 

“I walked out and saw the dog standing on the sofa looking through the window, and it took me five seconds to realize what was happening,” Sarquella said. 

Firefighters were already on the scene by the time Sarquella noticed smoke at 4:10 P.M.

At the time of publication, the Springfield Fire Department has not yet released an official statement. This is a developing story.
