While the search for a new head football coach had taken most of the attention recently, the Missouri State Bears are also continuing their national search for a new head volleyball coach.

The position was posted online at NCAAMarket.org on Nov. 25, but the posting has since been taken down, and it appears the search is coming to a conclusion.

“(We are) getting closer,” Director of Athletics Kyle Moats said on Monday, who does not comment specifically on coaching searches while they are ongoing.

Missouri State is looking for a full-time replacement for Melissa Stokes, who resigned on Aug. 12 following the discovery of NCAA violations within the program.

Stokes accumulated a 509-243 career record in over two decades of dominance at the helm for the Bears.

Following Stokes’ leave, Manolo Concepción took over as interim head coach after being brought on the staff as an associate head coach in March 2019.

As of right now, assistant coach Sara Thomas-Dietrich will not return to the 2020 coaching staff. She was hired as the head coach at Eastern Illinois on Dec. 23.

A new coaching staff will be the decision of the next head coach when that individual hires a staff, according to MSU Athletics Communications.

For the first time in 21 years, the volleyball team missed the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in 2019. Missouri State got off to a rough start this past season — 3-11 in nonconference play — and never fully recovered.

The Bears snapped their 19-straight winning-season streak, finishing 10-22 overall. The volleyball team hasn’t ended a season 10 or more games below .500 since records started being kept in 1972.
